A Book Review, Don’t Look Froward, God is Leading, A Memoir by Rose Lamatt
I was privileged to read Don’t Look Forward , God is Leading, A Memoir
by Rose Lamatt.
Yesterday was a quiet day here, and picked the book up
about 10 PM and couldn’t put it down until 2 AM , and only because
my eyes were tired.
I had no idea what to expect. From the title, I thought, a religious piece.
While it does have some religious undertones, it is a very descriptive
story of her life, from childhood until the end of the story.
The story goes from her childhood and dealing with Panic attacks, to
a quick marriage, the birth of a son, and adoption of a daughter from
another country, to taking up the game of golf with a neighbor she met.
Through golfing she met a woman she had known and admired through
newspaper articles about her golfing skills, and a friendship develops that is amazing.
I don’t know a lot about golf , so this was just part of the background of the story of the relationship that takes on a life of its own. Then through deep misfortune the friend develops Alzheimer’s disease , and the story turns to the care and loving friendship that gets them through .
If you know someone who has anything to do with nursing homes, read this book, some one with Alzheimer you need to read this. Panic attack sufferers and I know that is very common, this book will help you. People who are in unhappy marriages, this touches on that too, and how she handled it.I finished the book this afternoon, and have to write this.
Rose Lamatt, I salute you, a wonderful book about things people go through in life, how you handled them, and so very tastefully written. I think you have awakened the reader in me again. Thank you. Elsie Duggan

Don’t Look Forward is a powerful and thought provoking title, indicative of something most of us tend to forget: God is leading, so we shouldn’t strain so hard looking forward, trying to determine what life holds.
Rose had always been a very devout person, even as a child, but as her life began to change so dramatically in her teens and early adulthood, she began to question her faith. There was her illness at sixteen, a domineering father, a marriage that failed, change after change that kept her praying for God to hear her and intervene. Finally, when it looked as if He had answered her prayers, an even greater challenge was placed in her path; and it was through the next fourteen years that she finally came to realize that God IS leading, we just have to LET Him.
A beautiful story of a woman’s love and compassion and a renewed faith in what lies ahead.
