Question by sb0983: How do I know if I am having a panic attack?
How do I know if I am having a panic attack? On May 30 of this year I was at the mall. My first experience is that I feel dizzy. Then I start to feel like I can’t move my body. My body doesn’t feel relaxed. Than make stomach gets upset and I feel sick to my stomach. The spells comes twice a week for 20 to 30 minutes. After 30 minutes than I feel like myself. After I have theses spells I feel really sleepy and feel like I am on edge. I have made and appointment with my doctor for next thursday. Does anybody think that I am having a panic attack? Or does anybody think that I have a medical problem? Is there any medication that I can take for panic attack? Are there any self help groups out there? I live in the south jersey area.

Answer by Vox Sola
While you certainly have some sort of a medical issue, it does not sound like any panic attack I have ever experienced.

Panic attacks will make you feel like someone is sitting on your chest, you will experience trouble breathing and hyperventilation will often occur. Panic attacks also tend to induce disassociation, i.e., a feeling that you’re not quite attached to your body and the world will seem a bit dreamlike and abstract.

They will also make your heart race and leave you physically tired. Tingling and shaking of the extremities are common as well.

Beyond this, they have powerful psychological effects as well, often giving feelings of losing one’s mind as well as sharply reducing cognitive functions.

What do you think? Answer below!
